A 204-unit senior independent living complex received praise from both Garland's City Council and neighbors of the proposed development.
The developer, Ryan Combs with Cross Residential, noted strong community engagement.
‟We were able to have a neighborhood meeting in September. Councilwoman Morris helped us put together that meeting and host that meeting.
Neighbor Chris Beard, whose home backs directly to the proposed site, organized one of the community meetings and spoke in strong favor, saying all her adjacent neighbors also support it.
‟Please. If you're going to place something in that field, we like this one.
The favorable reception was aided by the developer's decision to build a 2-story section of the project adjacent to the single-family homes to reduce impact. Combs also worked with the city to put in the pickleball court and the raised planters to contribute to an “incredible lifestyle” for the future senior residents.
Garland City Council approved the rezoning unanimously after Planning had also unanimously endorsed it 7-0 with no discussion. The Planning Staff noted Cross going above and beyond the standard sidewalk requirement by including an 8ft wide sidewalk/trail along Edgefield Drive, enabling future trail connectivity for the neighborhood.
